VENEZUELAN COCOA AN ORGANIC FRUIT
(In the Fight to Protect the Environment)

 

Venezuela was leader in the export of cocoa until half-filled of the XIX century. In the surrounding area of the Henri Pittier Park , arose one of the most famous grains “the Chuao - Criollo.”

The Foundation “Tierra Viva” started in 1999 the Pittier Project: “Park, Man and Cocoa ", to admit in a sustainable way the presence of small traditional farmers in a national park.

The cocoa is considered like a cultivation of low environmental impact, because it requires the shade that the big trees provide, reason why avoids the deforestation, in addition their cleaning and maintenance are selective and the gathering is made by hand.

 

 

The added of the use of organic fertilizer, the control of plagues through biological systems and an appropriate control of quality, it result a compatible agricultural system with the conservation principles and profitable for the local producing populations.

The goal is to quadruple the actual production in two years. Then it will be the moment to process an organic certification of Western Europe.
